Prix Charles-Biddle

L’appel de candidatures pour le prix Charles-Biddle est lancé.

Le Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) en association avec Culture pour tous cherchent à récompenser le travail d’artistes et de travailleurs culturels issus de l’immigration.

Comportant un volet national/international ainsi qu’un volet régional, les lauréats ayant été sélectionnés par le jury seront récompensés d’une bourse de 5 000 $.

De nombreuses disciplines sont éligibles, allant de l’architecture à l’art du cirque jusqu’à la muséologie et au travail du patrimoine.

De nouveaux visages au CIAC

Le CIAC MTL est heureux d’accueillir trois nouveaux talents au sein de son équipe.

Mélissa Sahertian Hamel

Mélissa Sahertian Hamel occupe le poste d’adjointe au directeur général et artistique, Claude Gosselin.

Récemment diplômée de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Mélissa est Bachelière en arts visuels et médiatiques et entame prochainement un BAC en Design Graphique en vue de devenir directrice artistique.

Artiste pluridisciplinaire, Mélissa Sahertian Hamel a exposé lors de l’événement Passage à découvert, de la Galerie de l’UQAM. Notons également la présentation de son court-métrage Fragmentation à la Place des Arts de Montréal.

Anne-Marie Champagne

Anne-Marie Champagne occupe le poste d’agente aux communications et gestionnaire des réseaux sociaux.

Étudiante au baccalauréat de communication marketing de l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Anne-Marie est membre du département des Affaires de l’Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales (AIESEC) où elle est chargée de la gestion marketing.

Shawn Ayyadi Pilon

Shawn Ayyadi Pilon occupe le poste de photographe, de recherchiste et de rédacteur.

Étudiant au baccalauréat d’Histoire de l’Art de l’Université de Montréal (UDEM), Shawn est membre du comité de coordination, communication et logistique de l’édition 2021 du Colloque Arts et Média de l’UDEM.

Photographe professionnel se spécialisant dans le portrait et la photographie documentaire, Shawn Ayyadi Pilon travaille principalement auprès d’artistes et de personnalités culturelles, documentant leurs processus créatifs ainsi que les différents événements auxquels ils participent.

Barthélémy Toguo & Chuck Samuels

À l’occasion de la sortie de deux monographies importantes sur les artistes Barthélémy Toguo et Chuck Samuels il nous fait plaisir de rappeler leur œuvre et leur passage au CIAC MTL.

Barthélémy Toguo, artiste du Cameroun, a exposé à la troisième Biennale de Montréal en 2002, une édition consacrée au dessin. Son œuvre,World Garden Party, était une installation aux techniques multiples composées d’œuvres dessinées, peintes et sculptées.

La publication, Barthélémy Toguo, par Philippe Dagen, vient de paraître aux Éditions Skira, Galerie Lelong & Co, et Bandjoun Station. Il s’agit de la première monographie consacrée à l’artiste. Un volume relié 27,5 x 30,5 cm. de 280 pages avec texte en français et en anglais. L’édition de tête, limitée à 30 exemplaires, comprend une œuvre originale signée. Barthélémy Toguo est représenté par Galerie Lelong & Co.

Pour sa part Chuck Samuels a exposé au CIAC en 1996 lors des Cent jours d’art contemporain de Montréal, avec son projet Before the Camera/Devant l’objectif. L’œuvre de Samuels est intimement lié à l’histoire de la photographie. Il s’insère lui-même dans cette histoire en prenant la place des modèles photographiés.

La publication Devenir la photographie a été réalisée dans la foulée de l’exposition éponyme, présentée à EXPRESSION (St-Hyacinthe) et à PLEIN SUD (Longueil) à l’hiver 2021. Textes de Joan Fontcuberta et de Mona Hakim. 135 pages. La publication est disponible en anglais sous le titre de Becoming Photography.


Charles-Biddle Award

The call for nominations of the Charles-Biddle Award is now open.

Organized by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) in partnership with Culture pour tous, the Charles-Biddle Award promotes the works of artists and cultural workers who came from immigration and whose impact has been pushing forward art in their community.

Separated in two components (national/international and regional), the two finalists selected by the jury will each receive a 5 000$ grant.

Many disciplines are eligible for the Charles-Biddle Award, going from architecture and design to circus acts, museum, and patrimonial work.

The CIAC MTL acquires new talents

CIAC MTL is proud to welcome and introduce three new additions to its team.

Mélissa Sahertian Hamel

Mélissa Sahertian Hamel is the Assistant to the General and Artistic Director, Claude Gosselin.

Holding a bachelor’s degree in Media and Visual Arts from the Université de Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Mélissa will soon begin an undergraduate program in Graphic Design in order to later become an artistic director.

Being a multidisciplinary artist, her work has been exhibited at the Galerie de l’UQAM as part of the Passage à découvert exhibition. It is important to note that her short film Fragmentation was shown as a public projection at the Place des Arts de Montréal.

Anne-Marie Champagne

Anne-Marie Champagne has joined the team as a Communication Representative and Social Media Manager.

On her way to obtain an undergraduate degree in Communication and Marketing at the Université de Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Anne-Marie is a member of the Business Department Committee of the Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales (AIESEC), where she is in charge of marketing.

Shawn Ayyadi Pilon

Shawn Ayyadi Pilon has joined the team as a photographer, writer, and researcher.

On his way to obtain an undergraduate degree in Art History at the Université de Montréal (UDEM), Shawn is a member of the coordination, communication, and logistic committee for the 2021 edition of the Arts and Media Colloquium of UDEM.

A professional photographer specialized in portrait and documentary photography, Shawn Ayyadi Pilon works mainly with artists and cultural figures, documenting their creative process as well as the cultural event in which they are a part of.

We would like to thank Emploi-Québec and Employment and Social Development Canada for their financial assistance in hiring Mélissa Sahertian Hamel, Anne-Marie Champagne, and Shawn Ayyadi Pilon.


 

Light on Artists Barthélémy Toguo & Chuck Samuels

Two important monographs were recently published on Bathélémy Toguo and Chuck Samuels. We would like to use this opportunity to shed light on their works created during their passage to CIAC.

The work of Barthélémy Toguo, an artist from Cameroon, was exhibited at the third edition of the Biennale de Montréal held in 2002. For his installation, named World Garden Party, Toguo used an array of mediums, mainly drawing, painting and sculpture.

The monograph Barthélémy Toguo by Philippe Dagen was recently published by Skira in partnership with Galerie Lelong & Co and Bandjoun Station. It is the first monograph completely dedicated to the artist.

The book is bounded, with a size of 27.5 x 30.5 cm. It is 280 pages long with texts in both french and English. The special edition, limited to 30 copies, contains an original artwork signed by the artist. Barthélémy Toguo is represented by Galerie Lelong & Co.

The work of Chuck Samuels was exhibited at CIAC in 1996 during the Cent Jours d’Art Contemporain de Montréal event. His project Before the Camera/Devant l’Objectif was made of self-portraits, recreating famous images from photography’s history with the artist inserting himself in each picture as a way of challenging the way we think about photographs.

The photobook Becoming Photography was created for the exhibition of the same name held at EXPRESSION (St-Hyacinthe) and PLEIN SUD (Longueuil) art centers during winter 2021. It contains essays by Joan Fontcuberta and Mona Hakim and is 135 pages.

The publication is also available in French under the name Devenir la Photographie.
