This edition of the magazine pays a special attention to electronic
literature and to works making a specific use of language. In the Feature
section, Anne-Marie Boisvert examines the transition of the book to the
computer and the Internet in her study on electronic literature. In
addition, Sylvie Parent focuses on Web Works using language in all forms in
the Perspective section. Many works discussed in the section entitled
Web Works, have been chosen for their connection to language, in
order to complete the information offered in the two preceding sections.
In order to facilitate an understanding of the many events occurring in the
field of new media, here as well as abroad, we have added a new section in
this Magazine entitled Reviews. Bernard Schütze offers a review of the Media Lounge of the Festival of New Cinema and New Media. Valérie Lamontagne
contributes a review of Cartographies, a symposium organized by ISEA in
Montreal in October that assesses the state of New Media. For her part,
Pascale Malaterre covers Les Etats généraux de l'écriture interactive, an
event that took place recently in Paris. Karen Wong reviews
the telepresence installation Rendez-vous...sur le bancs publics, conceived
by Monique Savoie and Luc Courchesne in collaboration with la Société des
arts technologiques. Finally, Sylvie Parent reviews the Fixions project
produced by Agence TOPO.
In addition, Sylvie Parent interviewed Zoe Leoudaki, a Greek artist invited
to the exposition entitled Che c'è di nuovo being held in Naples in
mid-december. Finally, in the Spolight section, Valérie Lamontagne focuses
her attention on the fascinating site of the Museum of Jurassic
Technology.
Thanks to the work of Sylvie Parent and Gilles Thibault for the editorial
content and for the conception of the graphics, our publication was entered
into the official competition in the Golden Web section of AVICOM of the
Festival audiovisuel international, Musées et Patrimoine, in the context of
the Deuxièmes rencontres francophones nouvelles technologies et institutions
muséales that took place in Montreal last September.
You will notice that we are now publishing the Magazine on a regular basis
every three months. Our next issue will be coming out in the middle of March
2000, with its theme being "Creation=Destruction". If the subject interests
you, we will be happy to receive your ideas and suggestions.
Finally, I take the opportunity to offer you my best wishes for the year
2000!
Good reading!
