Anne-Marie Boisvert

Anne-Marie Boisvert completed a Bachelor's degree and pursued graduate studies in French literature (with a concentration in textual theory and Lacanian psychoanalysis) at Université de Montréal. She holds a Master's degree and has pursued doctoral studies in the analytic philosophy of language and exact sciences at Université de Montréal. She worked as a research and teaching assistant in Université de Montréal's philosophy department and has taught philosophy at Collège de Maisonneuve.

Since October 2001, Anne-Marie Boisvert is the Editor in Chief of the CIAC's Electronic Magazine. In 2002 and 2004, she was the Web Art Curator at the Biennale de Montréal. She has published many papers on web art and hypertextuality.

Shawn Bailey

Shawn Bailey is a founding member of the artist group BIOTEKNICA.

He is a visual artist who explores the artistic applications of biological systems, genetics and pharmaceuticals through digital media, installation, performance and critical writing.

His artistic research explores notions of authority and control structures implicit in media, law and international biotech and pharmaceutical policy development.

He is an Associate Professor at Concordia University in Studio Arts, an artist-researcher with the Hexagram Institute, and is currently working as a Research Fellow at Symbiotica exploring the in-vitro cultivation of living cellular sculptures from donated human tissue.

Ernestine Daubner

Ernestine Daubner is an art historian and theorist whose research and publications focus on modern and contemporary art practices at the intersections of science, technology and culture.

She teaches in the Department of Art History at Concordia University. Conducting research on diverse forms of new media art, she is currently working on several projects in the emerging field of contemporary art and biotechnologies in collaboration with GRAM (Groupe de recherche en arts médiatiques) and CIAM (Centre interuniversitaire en arts médiatiques).

She co-organized the Art & Biotechnologies colloquium at the Musée d'art contemporain in October 2004 and is co-editor of the book of collected essays and DVD of the same title.

Jens Hauser

Jens Hauser (D/F), born 1969, is a Paris based art curator, writer, cultural journalist and film maker.

He has organised a huge show on biotechnological art at the National Arts and Culture Centre Le Lieu Unique Nantes/France, including eleven artists employing biotechnology as a means of expression, and published L'Art Biotech' (2003).

His forthcoming exhibitions deal with the paradigm of "skin as a technological interface".

He is teaching at universities and art schools internationally and is a PhD candidate in media studies at Ruhr University Bochum. Hauser has written and given conferences about the interaction of film culture and video games and on contemporary music.

He is the director of creative radio pieces, sound environments and documentary films which have been shown in festivals and as video installations in museums. He is also regularly contributing to the european cultural channel ARTE since 1992, and is currently involved in two long-term film projects about bioart.

Jennifer Willet

Jennifer Willet is an artist, a part-time faculty member in Studio Arts at Concordia University, and a PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Humanities program at the same institution.

Her work explores notions of self and subjectivity in relation to biomedical, bioinformatics, and digital technologies with an emphasis on social and political criticism. She has exhibited, and presented her research extensively across Canada and internationally.

Since 2000, she has collaborated with Shawn Bailey on an innovative computational, biological, artistic, project called BIOTEKNICA.

Adam Zaretsky

Adam Zaretsky graduated in Art Studio from University of California at Davis, 1995. He has an Art and Technology MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, 1999. He has two years experience as a Research Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Arnold Demain Laboratory for Microbiology and Industrial Fermentation, 1999-2001. He has two years experience as an Organic Farmer, working to aid subsistence farmers in such disparate climes as Guatemala, Sumatra, New York and Hawaii, 1993-1995. He also has two years experience as a sex worker/activist, gleaning the underbelly of our human behavioral repertoire for biological commentary on sexual variety, 1996-1998.

Adam Zaretsky has been published in Nature Magazine, Red Herring, Leonardo, The Washington Post and Johnny's Unstoppable Bathroom Reader. He has spoken at Harvard, New York University, the College Art Association (CAA) and the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCIARC).
