All about emerging artists exploring the creative power of AI
Press release:
Pierre Henrichon is a translator. Militant for more than forty years in various political movements, he was president-founder of Attac-Quebec and member of the Charles-Gagnon Foundation. For several years, he has been interested in the links between science, technology and social and political developments. Big Data : faut-il avoir peur de son nombre? is his first essay.
We see it every day: the new digital economy fueled by algorithms and big data poses increasingly worrying challenges for our societies, especially with regard to the protection of privacy, at work or living together. Beyond the promises of progress and freedom made by Google, Amazon and Facebook, what interests are hidden behind our screens? Who owns our data? What dangers conceal the meeting of work automation, cybernetics, quantification and neoliberalism through Big Data?
These capitalist digital interests participate in the reduction or even the suppression of political space, in the erosion of the economic and social relevance of human work and in the destruction of society. The smallest aspects of our lives are parameterized in data, and monitored. Everything is measured, reality is digitized and life is reduced to indicators: only what is counted counts. What is more, these dynamics are accelerating the establishment of data oligopolies of unprecedented financial and technological power. Our societies are threaten with dissolution.
Pierre Henrichon deploys a powerful analysis of the dynamics underlying this real socio-technical and financial complex that is the phenomenon of Big Data, but also offers a vibrant advocacy against this tendency to reduce humans to this form of capital.
