INTRODUCTION

This second thematic selection groups together Web works examining the propensity for individuals to consider the Internet as a site for self-creation. The screen, like a blank page, serves as an ideal support for projecting oneself, one's desires, and the contents thus created are broadcasted elsewhere, immediately, by the means of a simple connection which acts as a bridge towards the other. Liberated from one's physical identity and it's defining environment, the individual may thus open another part of him/herself, exploring a new hidden side of his/her interior world, while shaping and presenting it for the viewer's gaze. Role playing games (MUDs) and exchanges in group discussions permit individuals to let their imagination run loose when coming into contact with others and to borrow an identity completely different from their own should they wish. This can lead to a theater of one's own invention, to a fiction of identity with unknown limits. The selected works focus on this phenomenon and have been divided into four sub-themes: double/personification, falsehood, creature, new body.
