Paul-Emile Borduas – Bibliothèque et Archives Canada MIKAN 1946
The Automatist movement would not have had the impact it did in Quebec without Paul-Émile Borduas. Therefore, we believe it is only right to revisit and bring to light the work and ideas of this master.
That is why we have created THE PAUL-ÉMILE BORDUAS COLLECTION on the website of the CIAC. This collection will serve as a platform for publishing new texts on the artist as well as a repository of essential references: websites, scholarly publications, educational content, etc… In short, a hub dedicated to Paul-Émile Borduas. We invite our readers to submit texts or ideas for further development to enhance our understanding of the work and life of Paul-Émile Borduas. Please feel free to contact me: claude.gosselin@ciac.ca
The creation of this project involves certain expenses: compensation for authors, webmaster fees, costs for translating and editing texts, royalties to be paid to artists for the works displayed, etc. We are seeking donations for this project in exchange for a tax-deductible receipt (CIAC, Canada: 10089 0920 RR00010). Donors’ names will be published, with their consent, on the PAUL-ÉMILE BORDUAS FUND website. We are making a special appeal to collectors, gallery owners, professors and art historians, exhibition curators, and independent researchers. The PAUL-ÉMILE BORDUAS FUND was established thanks to an initial donation by Mr. Yvon Brind’Amour to the Centre international d’art contemporain de Montréal.

P.S. In recent years, the life and work of Jean Paul Riopelle have been widely celebrated. Soon, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec will open a pavilion named in his honor. Riopelle and Borduas are two essential artists in the history of art in Quebec and Canada.
