The CENTRE INTERNATIONAL D’ART CONTEMPORAIN DE MONTRÉAL (CIAC MTL) is looking for authors for its Wallpapers project. This call is open to researchers as well as professors, artists, curators and art critics. Texts must address wallpaper created by artists, designers or architects from Quebec, Canada or the international scene.
Wallpaper as a support for graphic works is making a comeback. Originally a decorative medium that has seduced audiences since the 16th century, it reached its peak during the 19th century when its production shifted from craftsmanship to industry. Taken up by numerous artists since the 1960s, wallpaper remains a source of inspiration to this day.
Our project intends to provide information on artists currently working or that have previously worked to create original wallpapers related to their artistic research. The project was created to facilitate research on artists based on different themes ranging from politics, decoration, poetry, geography as well as historical periods.
Texts will be published on the CIAC’s website under the Wallpaper heading:
http://ciac.ca/en/wallpapers/
Those interested in collaborating to our project are invited to contact us or to send us an abstract of the proposed text (150-200 words) in US letter format (.doc, .docx), as well as a short biography (35-50 words) of the author.
Final texts should range from 1250-1500 words. Authors will receive an acknowledgment of receipt within 7 days of the submission of their text. Selected texts will be paid.
