In response to popular online animal videos (memes, LOL cats), Canadian artist Jhave reveals two unsettling figures: a kitten on the verge of dying and an enslaved primate. If online humoristic videos show animals in the process of making human actions, animals staged in the work of Jhave become, in the remembrance of their fragility and their enslavement, real metaphors of the human condition. The tragic portraits of Give Me Your Light are orchestrated according to a random algorithm and presented through a structural mediation in order to demonstrate how formatting influences their reception. Therefore, they question the viewer's postures regarding the content being carried throughout the Web on a massive scale.
