In Template Cinema, a series of films presented in real time over the Internet, Thomson & Craighead (England) exhibit a project online since 2004. The project has been updated with current technologies for the Biennale de Montréal. Positioning the spectator as a voyeur, images, texts and elements transmitted by a webcam randomly generate a new version of the artwork for each viewing. The fictional apprehension depends on the arrangement of images and sounds; in the credits we can also read that "this is a film". But what does it mean to "watch" a film whose content takes place not only in real time, but in the reality itself? How should we respond to events taking place in these films? Template Cinema raises an important issue related to modern technologies : what is the responsibility of the viewer in the age of Internet?
